GUILDFORD MUSEUM & CASTLE

Discover the history of the area. Situated in Castle Arch, the museum dates back to 1898 and currently houses the largest collection of archaeology and local historical exhibits in Surrey. You can view Roman artifacts, Saxon coins, medieval tiles, seventeeth century glass and pottery and objects associated with local residents such as Lewis Carroll and Gertrude Jekyll. You can see stone age pots and the contents unearthed from the seventeenth century rubbish tip of Tunsgate.

Behind the museum are the castle grounds where you can enjoy a picnic amongst the award-winning floral displays. The castle has recently been subject to major restoration during which much was learned of the history of the defenses.
